This past weekend was a whirlwind of success and excitement for Buena Vista University Archery, as the team competed in two major events across Iowa and Nebraska. From dominant podium finishes at the Iowa State Archery Association (ISAA) State Championships to intense head-to-head competition at the Salt Flats Shoot in Lincoln, BVU Archery showcased their skill, dedication, and competitive spirit.

Not 1, but 3 State Champions at the ISAA State Championships

On Friday, BVU Archery traveled to the Gavin Maines Archery Center in Woolstock, Iowa, to compete in the ISAA State Championships. The team wasted no time making their presence known with multiple top finishes.

• Kass Orwig led the way in the Female Bowhunter Freestyle division, securing 1st place, followed closely by Reagan Schurg (2nd) and Zoe Nason (3rd) for a BVU podium sweep.
• In the Men’s Bowhunter Freestyle, Joe Knieper delivered a flawless performance, shooting a perfect 300 score to claim 1st place. Kyler Edie set a personal best with 296, just missing the podium with a strong 5th place finish.
• The Female Compound Freestyle division saw another BVU sweep, with Madison Overby taking home the state champion title with a score of 297. Rosa Perrotti  (2nd) and Kinzie Hagen (3rd) rounded out the podium for another dominant BVU showing.

Competing on the Road at the Salt Flats Shoot

The competition didn’t stop there. On Saturday, the team hit the road once again, traveling to Lincoln, Nebraska, for the Salt Flats Shoot at the Turpin Outdoor Education Center.

• In the Compound Open Class, Madison Overby put up a strong performance, finishing 10th overall in a competitive field.
• In the Bowhunter Open Class, Joe Knieper entered the elimination round in 3rd place, advancing to a four-person shoot-off. After a hard-fought battle, he finished an impressive 4th overall.

A Weekend to Remember

With multiple podium finishes, personal bests, and incredible performances across two major competitions, BVU Archery continues to prove that their hard work and dedication are paying off. The team’s success is a testament to their commitment to excellence, and they’re showing no signs of slowing down.
